Why Does The Pope Wear a Funny Hat?

I am Catholic. I am a member of the Fourth Estate (the Media to the uninitiated) and I am angry with the so-called leaders of my faith who wish to condemn journalists.
They seek to do this because of the reporting many television news programs and newspapers have done on the ongoing pedophile scandal in the Catholic Church. It amazes me there are those who call themselves Catholics, and one man specifically -- Tom Rowan -- who is the former Editor of the Catholic Standard, who would seek to deflect the very odious dealings of the Catholic Church and the actions of some of its priests.
Tom Rowan says in his recent editorial "The Media and the Scandal" that the Media "in general" does not like the Catholic Church, because among other reasons, "The Church takes unpopular positions on moral issues and stands by them."
What do you mean Mr. Rowan? Like the unpopular position the Church took by hiding its pedophiles and then standing by that decision for so many years? Yep. He's got us pegged there.
But the erudite Mr. Rowan loses me when he says the Church affirms the unique dignity of all human life, while members of my ilk in the "secular Media" accepts abortion, artificial contraception, illicit sex, human cloning and assisted suicide. According to Rowan we even find it desirable.
I'm with Rowan on the illicit sex, but I'll be damned if I can remember the last time a bunch of us secular media cows gathered down at the water cooler and talked about our desire to commit assisted suicide, after we artificially inseminated Cindy Crawford because her clone was aborted.
Which begs the question, if someone did artificially inseminate Cindy Crawford, could she abort it? Or if she saw the light after artificially inseminating herself with her clone, could she abort it?
